When Jesus spoke of peace He was not speaking of these things, He was speaking about the heart. The spirit of the heart manifests itself in the flesh.

In Mark 7:21-22 Jesus says: 21 For it is from within, out of a person’s heart, that evil thoughts come—sexual immorality, theft, murder, 22 adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. 23 All these evils come from inside and defile a person.”

We are to love our neighbors. This means we are to have compassion for the poor, the homeless, the sick, the elderly, those in prison, and those less fortunate than us. How we act toward these people comes from the heart and manifests itself through our actions. However we cannot rely on ourselves to do these things, we have a heart problem and unless we learn to rely on God to make our heart right, we will be like the Pharisees who did things outwardly so that they would be glorified by man. Only God can make us peacemakers. If we are to have peace outwardly, we must have peace in our hearts which can only come from being right with God. This comes from no longer being a “slave to sin”, and seeking a relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ.

Isaiah 57:18-19 18I have seen their ways, but I will heal them; I will guide them and restore comfort to Israel’s mourners,19creating praise on their lips. Peace, peace, to those far and near,”says the Lord. “And I will heal them.”

Isaiah 60:17 17Instead of bronze I will bring you gold, and silver in place of iron. Instead of wood I will bring you bronze, and iron in place of stones. I will make peace your governorand well-being your ruler.
